Lena™ Nanoceutics is a patented particle processing technology for small and large scale manufacture of crystalline drug nanosuspensions and redispersable solid nanoparticulates.

The Lena™ Advantage

During traditional processing technologies, systems such as particle size reduction, mixing and homogenisation have tended to be discrete processes and generally carried out in large vessels. Such systems are of low efficiency because the number of times that any particular material within the vessel will interact with the system is very small; therefore at any one time much of the material in the system is inactive and no useful work is done.

The Lena Nanoceutics system replaces this traditional approach with patented small volume, high throughput process intensifiers. These process intensifiers are made up of a series of highly flexible metal elements held within a continuous flow container. Materials passing through the intensifier interact many times within a very short time, with no loss in processing efficienc and throughput is typically at speeds of between 60 and 120 metres per second (up to 5000 litres per hour). Intensifiers can be designed with different elements depending upon the functions required.

The range of functions elements in the Lena™ system include high shear mixing, homogenising, particle size reduction, de-agglomeration and shattering and micronisation; etc. Careful design then allows these individual functions to be built up into complete industrial processes.

Using our small scale bench top system and pilot rigs we can process batches from as little as 1g for feasibility trials up to several kilos to support larger investigations. Currently our system is being installed and qualified for cGMP clinical Phase I and II batch manufacture.
